Who can use NIHR CSP?
To use NIHR CSP to gain NHS permission, your study must be eligible for the NIHR CRN Portfolio. NIHR-funded studies in NIHR Biomedical Research Centres (BRCs), Biomedical Research Units (BRUs) or Collaborations for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRCs) are also able to use CSP, although they are not included on the NIHR CRN Portfolio (as they do not require Clinical Research Network infrastructure support).
Studies are assessed for inclusion in the NIHR CRN Portfolio in parallel with the NIHR CSP process. If your study is funded by a funder who does not meet the criteria specified by the Department of Health for inclusion in the NIHR CRN Portfolio, then your study is not able to be processed for NHS permissions through NIHR CSP. Your study may initially be able to use NIHR CSP, but then may not be adopted onto the NIHR CRN Portfolio, in which case it cannot continue to process through NIHR CSP.
If you have applied through NIHR CSP but are found not to be eligible for the NIHR CRN Portfolio you should continue with your application to gain NHS permission through your local R&D Office. To do this, you should first return to IRAS:
