Studies which are eligible for free ISRCTN registration
Both existing and new non-commercial studies with an interventional component (see Table 1) included on the NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN) Portfolio are eligible for free ISRCTN registration (see Table 1) paid for by the Department of Health in England.
Table 1. Free ISRCTN registration eligibility criteria for NIHR CRN Portfolio studies
| 1. Primary study design: | ‘Interventional’ or ‘Both’ (i.e. interventional and observational) |
| 2. Study status: | ‘In set up’ ‘Open’ ‘Closed - in follow up’ ‘Suspended’ |
| 3. ISRCTN and ClinicalTrials.gov status: | ‘Null’ |
| 4. NIHR CRN Portfolio study: | ‘Funded by UKCRC Partner’ ‘NIHR CRN Portfolio adopted, non-commercial study’ |
Studies which may be registered with ISRCTN via the new Portfolio functionality but are NOT eligible for free registration
Voluntary registration of observational, industry sponsored and devolved nations’ studies¹ without an ISRCTN or ClinicalTrials.gov registration is encouraged and these studies will be prompted and facilitated to register for an ISRCTN via the new Portfolio functionality but would have to cover the ISRCTN registration fee themselves.
These studies will be flagged by NIHR CRN Coordinating Centre, and Current Controlled Trials Ltd will invoice the relevant organisation/company directly for the full registration fee.
For up to date details on the ISRCTN registration fee go to www.controlled-trials.com/isrctn/submission/.
¹ Devolved nations studies are those studies included on the UKCRN Portfolio database that don’t have English sites.
