The national stroke strategy was published in December 2007. The strategy sets out a framework of quality markers for raising the quality of stroke prevention, treatment and longterm care and support. This one day event will examine through a series of case studies, a number of these quality markers and the key challenges that need to be met in providing effective specialist stroke care in hospitals and the community. All members of the multidisciplinary team will find it highly relevant and informative.

The UK Clinical Research Facilities’ (CRFs) Annual Conference is now firmly established as a key national meeting and Edinburgh is delighted to host this exciting event in 2008. With the rapid development and expansion of the UK CRF network, the conference has become an increasingly important forum for the Directors, managers, users and funders of CRFs.

  • UKCRC Experimental Medicine Directors' Forum, Edinburgh

3-4 July 2008

The UKCRC Experimental Medicine Directors' Forum will take place from 3-4 July in Edinburgh in conjunction with the UK CRF Annual Conference. The UKCRC Experimental Medicine Directors’ Forum brings together Directors of experimental medicine facilities including, Clinical Research Facilities, NIHR Biomedical Research Centres and MRC Translational Medicine Centres. Its aims are to explore new opportunities for establishing programmes of research across the UK and to identify systems of process required to support a successful network.

This event will comprise a mixture of plenary sessions and workshop sessions. Confirmed speakers include Professor Mike Harmer, Deputy Chief Medical Officer Wales and Professor Ian Diamond, Chief Executive, Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC).

This three day conference, organised by Informa Life Sciences, is aimed at those working within the area of clinical data management and will focus on the key challenges currently facing data managers.

29-31 July 2008

This conference is intended for individuals involved in all aspects of regulatory affairs in Europe, including those working in Quality Assurance, Research and Development, Pharmacovigilance and Clinical Trials.

The GRACE project is based around the broad theme of controlling antibiotic resistance in the context of community respiratory infections, since these are the major targets for much antibiotic prescribing. This workshop is specifically focused on current topics in primary care dealing with lower respiratory tract infections. The workshop is aimed at primary care and hosptial physicians, researchers and public health specialists interested in better management of community-acquired LRTI. Junior staff members are strongly encouraged to apply.

This course is dedicated to newly participating members (investigators, data managers, research nurses, etc.), and industry representatives. The purpose of this introductory workshop is to give guidance for participating in EORTC clinical trials activities. Participants will receive information about the functioning of the EORTC and about Trials methodology, investigator / site quality requirements and controle, patient safety management, adequate data collection and pitfalls for reliable data. Furthermore you will be shown our on-line registration /randomization  process and remote data capture system. It also provides an opportunity to visit the EORTC Headquarters and to have informal discussions with the Headquarters staff.

The Primary Care Neurology Society is a network of like minded healthcare professionals, organisations and partnering companies who all share an interest in primary care neurology. The Society’s main aim is to generate greater awareness and interest in neurology among professionals with an interest, or working, in primary care to help improve the quality of healthcare services to people suffering neurological symptoms and defined illnesses/conditions. The first P-CNS conference in 2008 will take place in Cardiff on 30 April.
