Dementias and Neurodegenerative Diseases Research Network (DeNDRoN)
There are seven DeNDRoN Local Research Networks that cover 51% of England (29.6million people) and close links have been established with the Wales Dementias and Neurodegenerative Diseases Research Network (NEURODEM Cymru). For further details of areas covered click here
DeNDRoN facilitates the conduct of randomised trials and other well-designed studies investigating the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of dementias and neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, Motor Neurone disease, Parkinson’s disease and Huntington’s disease.

Diabetes Research Network (DRN)
The Coordinating Centre manages eight Local research Networks (LRNs) that cover 41% of the population of England (21 million). For further details about which areas are covered click here
The Network facilitates the conduct of high quality randomised controlled trials involving people at risk of developing diabetes as well as those who have the condition. The Network also supports epidemiological studies and health services research that interacts with basic and clinical science and translational research. DRN also has strong links with the equivalent networks in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The Coordinating Centre for the Network is a consortium between Imperial College London, based at the International Centre for Circulatory Health and The Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism.

Medicines for Children Research Network (MCRN)
There are six MCRN Local Research Networks that cover 52% of England and where appropriate, Network activities are coordinated with other NIHR CRN CC-managed Clinical Research Networks and medicines for children networks in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. MCRN has been created to improve the coordination, speed and quality of randomised controlled trials and other well designed studies of medicines for children and adolescents, including those for prevention, diagnosis and treatment. The Network has extensive knowledge and experience of paediatric research, and supports non-commercial, pharmaceutical/biotech-sponsored and investigator-led partnership studies in over 100 NHS sites that serve approximately 6 million children.
MCRN supports studies though its infrastructure, which includes the MCRN Coordinating Centre, Local Research Networks (LRNs), Clinical Studies Groups (CSGs), Clinical Trial Units (CTUs) and a Neonatal Network.

National Cancer Research Network (NCRN)
NCRN provides complete geographical coverage of England and has strong working links with the Cancer Research Networks of the devolved nations of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. PCRN brings together a wide range of primary care practitioners such as GPs, practice nurses, dentists, and pharmacists. It offers patients in primary care settings unprecedented opportunities to participate in high quality clinical studies, focusing on innovation in prevention, early diagnosis, screening, treatment and health care delivery in the community.
PCRN works closely with the Scottish Primary Care Research Network and is actively engaging with developing primary care research infrastructure in Wales and Northern Ireland.

Stroke Research Network (SRN)
The Stroke Research Network (SRN) provides a world-class health service infrastructure to support clinical stroke research and remove barriers to its conduct.
The aim of the Network is to facilitate stroke research by bringing about focused, effective investment to enhance NHS research infrastructure for stroke, and to increase collaborative working between academics, stroke clinicians, stroke service users and research funders and industry.
There are 10 Research Networks in the UK (including eight in England, one in Scotland and one in Northern Ireland)). The role of Networks is to increase participation in research studies of people who have had a stroke or are at risk of a stroke, as well as involving them and their carers in Network activities. They also support the set-up and running of research studies within the SRN portfolio in sites in their Network and development of their local research workforce. Comprehensive Clinical Research Network (CCRN)
The Comprehensive Clinical Research Network facilitates the conduct of high quality, randomised controlled clinical trials and other well designed studies in all disease areas which are not covered by the Topic Specific Networks. There are 25 Comprehensive Local Research Networks (CLRNs) providing complete geographical coverage of England. For further details of the areas covered click here.
The Coordinating Centre for the CCRN is based within the NIHR CRN CC at the University of Leeds.
A dedicated CCRN Industry team within the NIHR CRN CC, led by the CCRN Industry Lead will act as the first point of contact for enquiries about conducting Industry Trials within the network. The Industry lead is Jenny Gray. In addition each CLRN will have a dedicated Industry Manager who will have specific responsibility for feasibility, site set up and performance management of Industry sponsored studies within their local network.
The CCRN Industry team will start to consider the adoption of Industry studies from the end of April 2008. Until full implementation of the CCRN in April 2009, studies will be considered on a case by case basis to ensure there is adequate CLRN infrastructure in place to support study set up and delivery. Companies are therefore encouraged to contact the CCRN Industry team to discuss study requirements prior to completing the NIHR CRN CC submission form.
