We are looking to employ a highly motivated medical trainee to start as soon as possible, to assist with management of a NIHR / MRC funded multicentre clinical trial investigating the effect of dopamine on physical recovery in people with acute stroke. You must have some experience in the clinical management of people with stroke.
The post would be suitable for a Rehabilitation Medicine / Stroke Medicine / Neurology / Elderly Medicine medical trainee who would like to undertake research with a view to developing an academic career. You will need excellent interpersonal, time management and documentation skills, enjoy working within a large clinical and academic multidisciplinary team, and be able to problem solve.
The research project investigates the effect of Levodopa on skill acquisition in people with stroke undergoing rehabilitation. This research is funded through the NIHR / MRC - Efficacy and Mechanism Programme. You will be responsible to Professor Bhakta, Head of Academic Department of Rehabilitation Medicine who is the Chief Investigator for this project.
The post is full-time and available for 22 months (with possibility of extension to 36 months) based at the Academic Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Leeds. It is expected that the successful applicant will apply for a further F/T research fellowship during this period to continue the research and complete a PhD.

The Peninsula Medical School wishes to recruit an experienced and motivated researcher with previous experience of conducting or managing clinical trials. The person appointed will work on an NIHR HTA-funded cluster randomised controlled trial of the effectiveness and cost effectiveness of telephone triage of patients requesting same day consultations in general practice. You will be responsible for the coordination and the day-to-day running of the trial. This major trial will have implications for the delivery and organisation of primary care, and reflects current research and policy interest in developing efficient and effective systems for patient consultation.
Previous experience of working with clinical trials is essential, as well as a research interest in primary care, and knowledge of NHS research and ethics processes and frameworks. You will have a PhD in a relevant discipline, or substantial equivalent experience. The key ethics and R&D paperwork have been submitted and the trial is expected to start recruiting practices in March 2010.
The post is based within the Department of Primary Care, Peninsula Medical School, and is based on the St Luke’s Campus, Exeter. This is a University of Exeter post and will involve some travel to the other study sites outside of Devon including Warwick, Norwich and Bristol.

Regionally in South Yorkshire, PPI being taken forward by the Research Design Service for Yorkshire and the Humber (RDSYH), the Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC) and the South Yorkshire Comprehensive Local Research Network (SYCLRN).
These three organisations are developing a joint PPI strategy for South Yorkshire, and this post has been created to lead on the delivery of this joint PPI strategy. This post provides an excellent opportunity for a researcher with PPI experience, or a service user-researcher with relevant experience, to lead on the delivery of a PPI in research strategy for South Yorkshire. The postholder will play a key role in the strategic direction of the Unit with particular responsibility for the research governance policy for BCTU’s large, varied portfolio of clinical trials and related research. This post is available to start from August 2010 for a fixed term of 26 months. The major role will be to act as a Clinical Operations Coordinator for a large randomised controlled trial running in the Yorkshire region.
This post is key to the running of the Tight Control of Psoriatic Arthritis (TICOPA) trial which is funded by the Arthritis Research Campaign. Responsible to the Principle Investigator, Dr Philip Helliwell, you will play a key role in screening and treating patients within the study, training of research staff at other study sites and management of the study in conjunction with the Leeds Clinical Trials Research Unit (CTRU).
Applicants must be medically qualified, with experience in Rheumatology, and you will be Fellow/Member of one of the Royal Colleges (or equivalent). Experience of working in clinical research setting is essential, with Good Clinical Practice training an advantage. You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The post involves work on several studies, including the coordination of a multi-centre clinical study to assess the quality of life of elderly patients with cancer and the conduct of audit studies of patients with pancreatic disease including cancer and pancreatitis. You will be expected to work with researchers and practitioners, helping to initiate studies, to recruit patients, support and engage them in the research and co-ordinate their treatment whilst they are taking part in the study. You will collect and collate data, carry out clinical assessments and will ensure that the research is conducted to good clinical practice regulations.
You will be educated to degree/professional level with significant experience of working at Band 5 or equivalent including experience of caring for people with related illnesses. You will be computer literate, with excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills. Knowledge of and experience of healthcare research is desirable.
The role may involve travel to research sites across the region so you will need access to a car and a clean driving licence. The post is fixed term for 12 months in the first instance.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of two years. Applications are invited for the above post based in the Centre of Evidence Based Dermatology, King’s Meadow Campus, Lenton Lane, Nottingham. The person appointed will work with members of the UK Dermatology Clinical Trials Network (UK DCTN) in order to progress trial suggestions into fully developed funding applications. They will support the wider development of the UK DCTN as an international organisation for the conduct of dermatology clinical trials.
Candidates should hold a postgraduate qualification preferably in health services research (or a related subject), and/or have significant relevant work experience in the field of clinical trials. They should have significant experience of designing and conducting clinical trials including significant experience of working in a multi-centre clinical trials environment.
