The e-Science Officer (eSO) will be a member of the MHRN West Hub team. The eSO will work closely with the MHRN Informatics Manager and other members of the MHRN Coordinating Centre. The main eSO responsibilities are to create and maintain new data entry systems for MHRN adopted projects and to establish and maintain effective communications with study teams and IT personnel within the Trusts and Universities. The position requires someone with a flexible and adaptable approach who is capable of working independently and has the ability to manage their own work and time. You will have substantial IT systems experience plus knowledge of developing and maintaining websites and data entry systems.

You will need to be able to drive, or be otherwise independently mobile.

The MHRN is one of the UK Clinical Research Network (UKCRN) topic specific networks and is funded by the Department of Health. The MHRN provides the infrastructure across the UK for large-scale research projects in mental health.

You will be based at the NW Institute Bio-Health Informatics (NIBHI) Centre, Manchester. Your main duties will include: identification of resources/equipment to implement the MHRN IT strategy; managing the transfer and deployment of the PsyGrid data collection system into the MHRN; project managing the design and deployment of new studies on the MHRN by e-Science Officers and ensuring the MHRN IT strategy aligns to and compliments UKCRN IT developments.

You will have a degree in a subject with a substantial IT content; significant experience in an organisation delivering information systems; management experience and the proven ability to prepare and present business cases to senior management.

The post is available immediately until 30 September 2009.
