The UK Clinical Research Network (UKCRN) was established in 2005 with funding from the Department of Health (DH) in England to provide a world-class health service infrastructure to support clinical research in the UK. An opportunity has arisen for the following post within the UKCRN and we are looking to appoint a highly motivated individual to work on a diverse and dynamic national initiative.
With a good general education (with GCSE English or equivalent at grade C or above), you will have effective organisational and communication skills, be a team player and have the ability to work in a fast moving environment.
You will be a key member of the administration team within the UKCRN Coordinating Centre providing a comprehensive and high quality clerical support to the Specialty Group team and the 26 national Specialty Groups.
Available for a fixed term of five years (although further funding may be available).
University Grade 4 (£16,215 - £18,710 p.a.) depending on relevant qualifications and experience.

An exciting opportunity now exists for a Communications Administrator within the UKCRN Coordinating Centre based in Leeds. You will work closely with the UKCRN Communications Team to provide essential administrative support. You will take a proactive role in developing and maintaining key processes and procedures to underpin the delivery of the UKCRN communications programme and will have effective organisational skills together with the ability to deliver work to specific deadlines.

This is a broad remit and will include a significant level of liaison with Specialty Group clinical experts, Comprehensive Local Research Network (CLRN) Industry Managers and Senior Managers. In addition you will manage administrative aspects of the portfolio and accrual database for the CCRN Industry team and support the administration of the UKCRN model Confidentiality Disclosure Agreements.

This is a unique opportunity for an inspirational and experienced Information Systems professional to provide the vision and leadership to drive the development and implementation of a national information system which will transform health research in the UK. A high-profile project of significant national importance, we are looking for an exceptional manager with not only exemplary technological credentials, but the personal gravitas to match.
The UK Clinical Research Network, with the National Institute for Health Research, are nationwide initiatives which co-ordinate the national clinical research effort and unite a range of stakeholders, including academics, healthcare professionals, government and industry, in a common goal.
Joining our senior management team, your role will be in planning and implementing enterprise information systems to support the various research networks in order to achieve more effective and integrated IT operations. You will establish and lead a service-based IT and IS team to provide core services and development capability, with specific responsibility for application development, service management, infrastructure management and strategy development.
You’ll need demonstrable experience of working in a leadership role in demanding IT environments and of linking IT/IS developments to emerging business requirements in rapidly changing environments. You have had responsibility for successfully developing and managing focused teams in accordance with structured planning, service and development methodologies and working closely with senior management.
In addition to a strong track record in delivering systems and services that meet user requirements to time, cost and quality, you will be able to demonstrate how you have provided an effective and responsive interface between senior management, systems users and application developers. Effective skills in communication, decision-making and negotiation, exercised with tact, diplomacy and an awareness of others, will be essential, as will your ability to motivate and educate those around you.

The scope of the UKCRN has now widened through the creation of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Comprehensive Clinical Research Network (CCRN) to encompass all areas of disease and clinical need.
The UKCRN Coordinating Centre is in the process of developing a number of Specialty Groups whose remit will be to provide the NIHR CCRN with access to a national network of subject specific expertise. Each Specialty Group will meet twice a year with the majority of work being done remotely.

Manager – Genetics in Healthcare Initiative

The new NHS R&D strategy “Best Research for Best Health” sets out a commitment to consolidate the previous investments in genetics research made following the publication of the Genetics White Paper. Recent substantial and exciting advances in genetics research are generating major opportunities for healthcare. The development of the Genetics Knowledge Parks and outputs from the White Paper have resulted in the development of a number of genetics focused networks and collaborative groups. There is now a need to identify all these networks and groups, map the extent of their activities, remits and responsibilities and to provide a coordination function, relating to research in this area. This will be the purpose of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Collaborative Group for Genetics in Healthcare which requires the expertise and support of a dedicated manager.
Educated to Degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject area you will have an enthusiasm for and experience of genetics research effective organisational and communication skills and a capacity for problem solving. This post will be based within the UK Clinical Research Network (UKCRN) Coordinating Centre and can be either Leeds on London based.

This is an ideal opportunity for a motivated individual wishing to develop their knowledge of the clinical trials research environment to work as part of a team within a diverse and dynamic national initiative.
Working within the UK Clinical Research Network (UKCRN) National Coordinating Centre, you will contribute to the initiation and delivery of projects and initiatives undertaken by the UKCRN Clinical Trials team, particularly those responding to issues and needs of the academic clinical trials community within the UK, and clinical trials units. You will also be responsible for maintaining regular communication links with the academic clinical trial community, ensuring that news of projects and new developments is communicated effectively.
You must be educated to degree level or have equivalent experience in a relevant subject area, along with an awareness of the UK clinical research environment. Excellent organisational skills demonstrated by a proven ability to support a range of different projects simultaneously is required.
Travel will be required frequently within the UK.
