The Department of Health has set out eligiblity criteria for those studies that can be included in the NIHR Clinical Research Network Portfolio.


 

"Best Research for Best Health" - a new NHS R&D Strategy

Launched in January 2006, "Best Research for Best Health" sets out a research and development strategy for the NHS in England. Implementation plans cover the key areas of work, including the development of the NIHR Clinical Research Network, setting out timelines for delivery. All active implementation plans were updated in July 2009.


 

"The NHS in England: The operating framework for 2009-10"

The operating framework sets out a brief overview of the priorities for the NHS in 2009-10. This includes details of the national ambition to double the number of patients taking part in clinical trials and other well-designed research studies within five years working with the NIHR Comprehensive Clinical Research Network.

NHS Information Governance guidance note on security of NHS patient data shared for research purposes
It is essential that everyone who has access to information about NHS patients understands and meets appropriate information security standards. The Cabinet Office has completed a review of public sector data handling and has established a comprehensive range of minimum security standards. Consequently, NHS guidance for the protection of patient information has been extended and strengthened in order to respond robustly to these requirements.


 

UK Research Integrity Office (UKRIO) Procedure for Investigating Allegations of Misconduct in Research
This step-by-step procedure is aimed at all organisations engaged in research using funds from funders such as the Research Councils and other government bodies, as well as from charities, overseas funding bodies and the commercial sector. It sets out an approach to be followed from the first receipt of an allegation through to the investigation panel which will decide on whether there was in fact any misconduct. The procedure is designed to ensure that investigations are carried out both thoroughly and fairly.
