NIHR CSP - The Coordinated System for Gaining NHS Permissions

NIHR CSP is the processes by which NHS Trusts now provide permission for new research. All NHS Trusts in Greater Manchester are accepting applications through the system. The system is similar to that used by the Ethics Committees in that one CLRN carries out the global checks and R&D departments carry out checks applicable to local sites. The system is co-ordinated by GMCLRN staff who will distribute, monitor and check the quality of the applications and subsequent approvals.

Using NIHR CSP, researchers can now apply for permission from all NHS sites in England through a single gateway via the Integrated Research Application System (IRAS) at: http://www.myresearchproject.org.uk

If you’ve started completing applications in IRAS but have not yet made applications to NHS R&D offices, you should contact the NIHR CSP Unit at csp@ukcrn.org.uk for guidance.

Initially NIHR CSP is only for portfolio studies. If your study is not eligible for portfolio adoption, then continue with R&D approval from NHS Trusts involved in the study. If you have already applied to NHS R&D departments you should continue to seek permission directly from the NHS Trusts involved in the study.
