CLRN Leadership

Professor Tim GoodshipClinical Director

The Clinical Director for the Northumberland, Tyne and Wear CLRN is Professor Tim Goodship.

Tim Goodship is Professor of Renal Medicine at Newcastle University. He qualified in Medicine at Guys Hospital in 1977 having also undertaken an intercalated BSc in Pharmacology at the University of London. He trained in renal medicine in Newcastle upon Tyne and Boston, and was appointed as Senior Lecturer in Newcastle in 1990. His research interests include the pathophysiology of renal failure and renal genetics. He has over a 100 peer-reviewed publications in these areas and is currently supported by grants from Kidney Research UK and the MRC. From 2002-2006 he was Chair of the Joint Research Executive of Newcastle University and the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, this joint committee is responsible for all aspects of the clinical research partnership between the Trust and the University. He is currently a Medical Advisor to Kidney Research UK, Chairman of the Governance Committee of the UK Glomerulonephritis DNA collection and a Governor of the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Core Team

The Core Team is led by Seamus O'Neill, Senior Manager. The Lead RM&G Manager is Justine Smith.  An Information Manager and Administrator will be appointed shortly.

Executive Group

The day to day operation of the CLRN is supported by an Executive Group, led by the CLRN Clinical Director, which has representation from primary, secondary and tertiary care and mental health. This Group will be established shortly.
