Information for Topic-specific Clinical Research Network (TCRN) and Primary Care Research Network (PCRN) Staff

A range of changes have recently been introduced in relation to research management and governance (RM&G) for studies where the aim is adoption onto the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Portfolio. The changes aim to simplify procedures, reduce the administrative burden on investigators and speed up the process of gaining permissions and approvals. The most significant changes are:

• A single point of application for permissions and approvals, via the Integrated Research Application System (IRAS);
• A new process, the NIHR Coordinated System for gaining NHS Permission (NIHR CSP), for NHS R&D permission and;  
• New HR procedures for investigators (information on these are not included in these pages but can be accessed here)

It is essential that TCRN and PCRN staff are familiar with the new procedures and know where they will have input in these processes.
