Professor Paul Wallace, Director, Primary Care Research Network
Paul Wallace was appointed as NIHR CRN CC Deputy Director for Primary Care and Director of the Primary Care Research Network in October 2006. He is also Professor of Primary Care at University College London and works part-time as a general practitioner in the Hampstead Group Practice, London. Having been awarded an MRC Epidemiology Training Fellowship shortly after completing his specialist training in General Practice, he followed a career in academic general practice, first as Training Fellow at the MRC Epidemiology and Medical Care Unit at Northwick Park, subsequently as Senior Lecturer at Imperial College and finally in his current professorial appointment at UCL. He has extensive experience in developing research capacity in primary care in the UK and Europe and in conducting large scale clinical studies.
"The vast majority of patient contacts within the NHS take place in primary care, so it is critically important to have a strong evidence base to inform clinical practice in this area. PCRN constitutes a unique resource, providing patients throughout England with the opportunity to benefit from engagement with primary care studies and thus to contribute to the development of this evidence base." Professor Paul Wallace.
