Call for proposals: NIHR Programme Grants for Applied Research

The Department of Health has issued a call for outline proposals for National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Programme Grants for Applied Research.

Appropriate NHS organisations, together with their academic partners, are invited to submit an outline application. In order to ensure a controlled transition from the present R&D funding system to the new system, the Department of Health is limiting the number of areas in which it will be awarding programme grants for the first round to:

  • mental health
  • medicines for children
  • diabetes
  • stroke
  • dementias, neurodegenerative diseases and neurology
In subsequent funding rounds (beginning April 2007) outline applications in all areas of research will be accepted.

The deadline for receipt of outline applications is 16 June 2006.
