A programme on clinical trials was broadcast on Radio 4 recently in which the journalist and broadcaster Vivienne Parry looked at why people take part in clinical trials, exploring whether it is the hope that they will benefit directly or whether they participate for the common good, hoping that it will lead to future cures.
