Professor Rosalind Smyth, Director of MCRN, appointed to the Commission on Human Medicines

Professor Rosalind SmythThe Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and the Appointments Commission has announced that Professor Rosalind Smyth, Director of the NIHR Medicines for Children Research Network, has been appointed as a member of the Commission on Human Medicines.

The Commission on Human Medicines is an independent body that works closely with the MHRA, advising UK health ministers on the regulation of medicines. It came into being in 2005 and its duties include: advising ministers on matters relating to human medicinal products; advising the licensing authority in relation to the safety, quality and efficacy of human medicinal products and to promote the collection and investigation of information relating to adverse reactions for human medicines.

Professor Smyth's appointment commenced from 1 November 2009.
