Booking NIHR CRN Courses and Using the LMS

In order to manage and administer our courses effectively we use an online Learning Management System (LMS). The LMS allows us to automate the registration, course booking, cancellation and event management of our courses, which we feel is important for our administration team but also for you as an individual user. We now have in excess of 9,000 individual users registered on the LMS making the system an invaluable tool for the Workforce Development team.

While a certain amount of automation is required for us to provide an efficient service, the LMS is not intended to replace individual support and advice where required. We have provided detailed information and guidance documents (outlined below) to help you navigate the LMS and make full use of its functionality. Please ensure you are aware of our eligibility criteria and the terms and conditions of booking and cancelling course places before registering and accessing our training.

Eligibility

NIHR CRN training is available free of charge to individuals working on a clinical trial which has been accepted onto the NIHR Portfolio of studies and those people working directly with an NIHR Clinical Research Network, including patient and public representatives. Our training is also available to individuals working on studies accepted onto the Portfolio of studies in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales and staff working on some NIHR funded research programmes, including Clinical Research Facilities and Biomedical Research Centres and Units.

The studies accepted onto the Portfolios in all four UK nations are listed in the UK Clinical Research Portfolio Database. This database is publicly available and can be viewed at: http://public.ukcrn.org.uk/search/

Terms and Conditions of Booking and Cancelling Courses

While our training is provided free of charge to those people who meet our eligibility criteria, we have clear terms and conditions of booking and cancellation. These include a £75 charge for non-attendance of a taught course or non-completion of an online course. Please ensure you are aware of the full policies:

Instructions and User Guides

We hope you will find the LMS easy and straightforward to use but we have provided step by step instructions should you need some additional help. There are separate documents to guide you through

• Registration – for anyone registering on the system for the first time
• LMS User Guide – step by step instructions for all LMS functions including booking a course, cancelling a course and accessing course related documents such as programmes and venue information.
• Authorisation Manager’s Guide – step by step instructions for authorisation of course bookings, reporting on your authorisation group’s activities and an overview of the purpose and function of LMS authorisation managers.
