Aims
The aim is to review the legal and ethical frameworks for the consent process.
Learning Outcomes
Following the course, participants will be able to:
- Recognise the legal framework for the informed consent process
- Identify the ethical considerations related to obtaining valid and informed consent
- Define a list of essential components for informed consent
- Understand a patient’s experience of the consent process
- Consider the role of a nurse in the consent process.
Programme The course is structured in the following way:
- There are five sections with a total of 21 modules. A new module, Human Tissue and Post Mortem, introduces the Human Tissue Act 2004, and consent in Post Mortems
- Modules can be completed in any order, but it is recommended that they are carried out in sequence becasue what is learned in the earlier modules provides a basis for the more advanced modules.
