- Introduce the basic ideas underpinning clinical and health research
- Explore the value and purpose of research
- Introduce the basic stages of the research process, including how to define, and refine a research question
- Provide an overview of clinical research structures in the UK (NHS, industry, other)
- Generate discussion about ways in which patient/public representatives can become involved
Learning Outcomes Following the course, participants will be able to:
- Understand what clinical and health research is and why it is done
- Understand the different processes involved, including the processes involved in defining a research question
- Understand the clinical research structures within the UK
- Recognise patient/public involvement opportunities in clinical research projects
Programme The course will cover the following topics:
- What is research?
- Why carry out clinical research?
- How is clinical research conducted?
- What role can patient/public representatives play in research?
Further Information
This course is aimed specifically at a general audience who are relatively new to clinical research. The day will include a combination of presentations and workshops.
Duration
This is a one day course.
Cancellation Policy UKCRN courses are offered free of charge to all staff and public and patient representatives working on or associated with the UKCRN portfolio of studies. Networks and host organisations are expected to pay travel, accommodation and other additional expenses incurred by their nominated staff. Failure to take up a pre-booked, confirmed place without giving the necessary notice will incur a £75.00 charge to cover part of the UKCRN Coordinating Centre’s costs.
